Wonder Woman in Mexico City
Adam Guevara, in memoriam ◘ Nothing better to celebrate the International Day for Drama than attending one of the educational institutions which in Mexico has focused, for more tan 60 years, to the professional education of great quality actors, as is the National School for Drama Art. The celebration and happiness climate can be perceived from the moment you start approaching the facilities of the National Center for the Arts, where the school is housed. On Saturday, March 31st, besides the aforementioned celebration, Euro Jazz was taking place too, a grand music encounter which took place in the “green areas” of the National Center for the Arts, beside the College of Music; among the green grass, trees and bushes, with the attendance of great jazz representatives and a public anxious to listen to them, especially young people. I arrived at the Center, and at finding a saturated parking lot, I had to move on to the movie theaters complex, also a the CENART, where the parking lot workers sent those of us who were arriving close to five o’clock to this magnificent cultural space in our city; thank to which, I had the opportunity to listen, for a few minutes, the jazz players who were at that moment interpreting their music; and I could appreciate how the young people were enjoying this artistic expression, acquiring more and more fans among them, which made me feel very happy. I rushed to join my cousins and niece who had gladly accepted my invitation to attend the monologue by the woman actor, Analie Gomez, entitled The Illustrious Case of Wonder Woman and her Conflicts with Love, which would start at seven at night, at ENAT’s “Antonio Lopez Mancera” Hall. It was important to arrive early, in order to find places, since we knew that due to the celebration of the International Day of Drama, the tickets could run out fast. Precisely, we arrived with enough time to admire what the school students had prepared for such a festival: the school ornamentation with multicolor ribbons and ballons, costumes, commemorative T-shirts, Mexican food stands, fun and enjoyment all over, which generated a fantastic climate. So the wait did not seem long; we had the chance to chat with Luisa Huertas, who happily attended to see the play also; with the school director, Gilberto Guerrero, and various other professors and students who approached them, kindly, to say hello also. Before starting the play, the audience already seated, the theater full at 100%, one of the ENAT students read the text actor John Malkovich prepared ex profeso for the occasion and which would be read in all stages of the world. With a minimalist set and the appropriate lighting, our Wonder Woman appears on set, in a moving first act, which shows her beside herself, in a crisis almost hysterical, full of shocking anger and tears; she will procede to explain her case, which is the case of many women, not just from her generation, but belonging to previous and future ones, immerse in the labyrinth of falling in love, that love which turns out traitorous. She interacts with the audience, enquires us, glares at us, identifies us, exchanges winks, and even sits on a young man’s lap – he is sitting at the front row. She makes us laugh, more than laugh, but laugh out loud, sing to her songs, clap, feel her pain - easily identifiable with ours - and even open old wounds, or as she well said, while looking directly at the line where my cousins, Luisa, and I were sitting, “the greatest of you,” not to say the oldest ones, since, indeed, we were, for sure, the oldest women compared to the rest of the young ones there. She is telling us how her “Ken,” in the idea of the dreamy love, where we women would be “Barbies,” has lived with her a torrid romance that erodes, gets cold, in which she has invested all her emotional and economic resources, while he lives the easy life and cheats on her, not only with other “Barbies,” but also with a guy wearing a horrid spotted speedo, which looks like jaguar skin. And in this narrative, she transports her audience in the swinging of emotions, in the game of identifying our personal love story or story of failed loves, with that feminine story which we, indeed, share with various generations, and which is almost hard to believe today - that many young women who have not quite reached thirty, are living, right now in the XXI Century. The combination of music, singing, dance, narration, small changes in accessories in her outfit and the small effects she uses as she takes them out of a small pink box, the falling bubbles in an indescribable scene - since only those who see it can feel what the woman actress transmits - all this environment makes this monologue a delicious piece, which based on the laughter it triggers, allows us to exorcise the demons we carry inside, those ghosts which surround our life and which often torment us and make us alert whenever the possibility of falling again in the claws of infatuation appears, but which in the end make us see that it is not the end of the world and it is not atrocious to spend life without a partner, that we can live and live well and happy with ourselves, that it is important to teach ourselves and learn to love ourselves, in order to be able to build adequate loves. At the end, as Analie Gomez makes it clear in her work, there is hope and that hope is the happiness that a full life gives, constructive, propositive, which has tried to love without prejudices or tying knots, which does not succumb to the idea of enjoying the splendor of love and to love that idea of love which we must build. This woman actress, who lives in Merida, Yucatan, came back to Mexico City with this staging proposal after ten years of having finished her studies at ENAT, within an interesting program this academic institution has, consisting of inviting its alumnae to share their professional experiences, and as a homage to Adam Guevara, recently deceased, she dedicates her work. At the end of the play, she asks the audience to dedicate a moment of silence to the memory and work of Adam Guevara’s, due to which today, as a continuation of this offering act, I also dedicate this text, for all that he gave his students at ENAT and the University Center of Drama from UNAM, as well as to the Mexican theater and those who have enjoyed its work.
Baño en Temazcal
One of the traditions and rituals that were inherited to us by our nahuas (pronounced nawas) ancestors is the temazcal bath. In the last years the use of these beautiful retreats has been spread in the central region of the country, which are like circular ovens, like a great empty sphere, cut in the middle, with a burner, a stove, fire, or fire fountain at the center, over which some basalt stones are placed to heat with the fire for a few minutes, before the people who will use the place get inside. Once the stones are hot, they are sprayed with water, where herbs like piru, rosemary and eucalyptus have been infused in order to create vapours. Some years ago I had had the opportunity of using a temazcal, in the region of the Tuxtlas, in the state of Veracruz, but the ritual accompanying the practice was a strange mixture of Budhist meditation and Toltec tradition, interesting, very relaxing and skin purifying. At that time, the responsible temazcal clerk asked those of us entering, to spread clay on face and body, which had a very effective exfoliating effect; the heat was intense, the steam heavy, causing a lot of sweat. At the end of the session of approximately half hour, you had to get wet with cold water and then drink a fruit tea and have a papaya and pineapple juice; after that you had to go to bed since the bath is taken in the evening. On Sunday, March 4th, I had the opportunity of getting into a temazcal again. This time, in Puebla, the montanous area neighboring Rio Frio, at noon. This time, the people running the temazcal were a couple, a Mexican woman and a German guy living in the country for more than forty years. They aligned to the nahua tradition and rituals. As a matter of fact, Anita, which is her name, studied at the Autonomous University of Chapingo, where she specialized in Temazcal; her husband, the German who calls himself “el Abuelo” (The grandfather), learned this tradition and ritual from old indigenous Tlaxcaltecas. After making the ceremonial greeting and asking for permission from the four winds to enter the sacred space which is the temazcal, we started the purifying bath. The session lasted two hours. We sweat copiously, but we also had plenty of water to drink and ate fruits, tangerines and watermelon in order to replace the minerals we had lost through sweat; then a bath with cold water. The younger members of the group who did the temazcal even had a swim later, in an 80.6° F water, but the elders in the group (one of my sisters, a cousin and I) went to take a bath with water that was not as cold. Anyhow, the relaxing effect of the bath is incredible, and then at night, sleep was astonishingly repairing, profound and calm. In the nahua cosmovision, the temazcal bath, besides taking the dirt off your body, it allowed the spirit to be purified, with the return to a warm and wet environment, analogue to the maternal womb, a way to go back while alive to Mother Earth and find in her the repair of the body and the spirit. The ritual is also a way to thank the gods and the basic elements, fire, water, earth, and wind, for the gifts of existence in this infraworld. It is important to emphasize that in the contemporary ritual, God, all powerful, is given thanks too, in this syncretic vision of the world. Context of the ritual and tradition aside, there is no doubt that the temazcal is a delicious and highly enjoyable indulgence, which collaborates in the reflection of who we are, what we want, where we are going, and the realization that our spirit is with God at all moments. |
Cronicle of a Final Essay - The Expulsion
◘ In order to celebrate Valentine’s Day, nothing better than attending a final rehearsal, in the company of a great friend, invited by another one just as dear, which had already been played last year, although I had not been able to see. It is about The Expulsion, a dramatic text by Jose Ramon Enriquez, directed by Luis de Tavira which talks about the expulsion of the order of Jesuits in 1767 from what then was the Viceroyalty of New Spain, mandated by the King of Spain, Charles III. This period in the history of the country, during colonial times, I was familiar with as an important fact; however, from the dramatic text perspective, its relevance acquires a colossal dimension. There is no doubt about the great and positive influence that Jesuit priests had and still have in our days. Their educational work, with so much repercussion at that time as today, in favor of the dignity of the indigenous population, farther than evangelization, it transcended in the most diverse environments of science, the humanities and art, is uncovered in this staging, which centers its development in the vision of Jesuits at that time about what it meant to them and to Mexico that the Spanish monarch would mandate their ban from the conquered territories for the Spanish empire, and later on, also the exile from Spain. The illustrious presence of Francisco Xavier Clavijero, one of the main role models for science and philosophy of his time, historian who vindicates his “Mexicanity” and spreads the word about the virtues of the country in Europe, facing this way the discourse of those who, hidden behind supposed scientific basis, despised all that existed in the American Continent, constitutes a central element in this work, as well as that of a young novice from Zacatecas who entered the order two years before the expulsion, who consecrates as a priest in Rome and does his ministry in Russia, and later returns to Mexico, after the sixty years that the ban of this order of priests lasted. The choir accompanying the climatic moments of the play formed by Jesuits who sing with harmonious voices their songs praising both the divine works and the order, founded by Saint Ignatius of Loyola, the nuns who shadow the pain of the banned, the indigenous people who join their teachers and mentors in solidarity and help them and take care of them in the adversity of the exile, as well as the unadorned set, which accentuates the thriftiness of the life of this order are the components generating a climate of empathy toward everything that may mean separation and segregation, by definition unjust and inhuman. The unavoidable formulation of the question, “What would have happened if the Jesuits hadn’t been banned from the territories of the Spanish Empire?” does not take long to appear, but in the same way, the answer is obvious: It is not possible to speculate on what did not happen; however, it keeps stated that the premises for the search of truth, of science, to allow free thinking, of searching and fostering ideas of freedom and social justice were out of place in the thinking and actions of despotic and tyrant rulers, incapable of conceiving that such premises shaped up the necessary crucible for an economic, political, and social development already engendering in other European nations and in the colonies of what would become, some years later, the United States. This play by the playwright Jose Ramon Enriquez, former Jesuit, directed by Luis de Tavira constitutes a heartfelt testimony of the drama of this example of illustrated despotism, which we are at risk of repeating, before the constant sudden attacks by people in government who would like to do as the Spanish monarch did in 1776, except now, right in the XXI century: to eradicate their critics and those who question their power and give elements to the population to be free in their thinking and actions; a play that works as a mirror in the time tunnel, worth seeing. |
ON STAGE
Dilemma February 9th, 2012 - MEXICO CITY Last week, I attended the opening of Bertolt Brecht’s play called "El que dijo sí / El que dijo no” (The One Who Said Yes / The One Who Said No), very much in tune with present times, invited by professor Luisa Huertas, who, besides being an excellent woman actor and fervent promoter of everything related to vocal study and training, is also a promoter of scenic arts and defender of human and social rights in our country. At this time, this staging is produced by the Theater System of Mexico City’s Government, with the support of the National Fund for Culture and the Arts, and directed by David Psalmon. The plot develops around a remote town in the Balkans, being beaten by a terrible epidemic which is swiftly decimating the population, isolated in uncouth ranges, due to which a small number of youngsters, under the leadership of the town teacher, decide to start a journey to the place where the cure for the ailment which threatens the life of the inhabitants is said to be found. When the teacher goes to say good bye to one of his youngest students, he, who is looking after his mother, also infected by the illness, begs his mentor to be taken with the group because he wants to bring the healing cure to his mother at any cost, since his father has died victim of the same killer evil. The young guy, in spite of lacking the necessary training to climb the high mountains and resist the inclemency of the weather, as well as the atmospheric pressure and the altitude, is accepted by the group to go in such a hazardous expedition. At midway, the boy starts showing the symptoms of the ailment, and it is then that the dilemma appears: to go back to the town, so that the teenager can receive the care his diminished health needs, which would mean having to travel backward, given the fact that they have traveled for nine days to get to that point and make their possibility to bring the remedy back to the sick, or else, abandon the boy to his luck and continue the journey without him. This is what becomes the dilemma to solve; the arguments for and against going back o leave the boy, in the middle of nowhere, get to the point to where the boy asks his mates to throw him down the cliff, and finish what he thinks will be his sad end. It is at this point, when the group is in the climax of the dilemma, when its members do not know what to decide, that the actor taking the part of the teacher appeals the audience and asks us to help them make the decision. Different arguments are presented, again, by the spectators: whether to take the boy back, or not taking him since they would be risking the hypothetical conviction about the cure being on the other side of the mountains, until the solution is left to a vote. It is interesting to note that those of us who voted in favor of the return of the group to the town were the people over thirty years of age; i.e., the fewer in the audience attending this opening, and that the younger, most of them in their twenties, voted to push the boy down the mountain, which they did, thus finishing this one of Brecht’s works. I am making a particular reading of this staging, apart of making the comment that the performances were fine. The first body expression exercise, with which the play starts, is a butoh dance; it is very good and the live music background was excellent. What broke my heart was to confirm the crudity with which the attending youth decided to sacrifice the young guy’s life, with the only hope, since there was no certainty, that on the other side of the rugged mountains would they be able to find the remedy for the sickness. Strictly speaking, they appealed the idea that what results negative for just one person, may be positive for the majority, even though it may lack the confirmation that they could find the so wished benefit, and that then, maybe, the sacrifice of the youngest would not have been in vain. I kept thinking, for several hours, about a great number of similar examples, which come out of our daily life, as a society, as a country, in which this example can work as an analogy and in the constant dilemmas we encounter, in this sense, I consider that an ethical and solid education, following the principles of our laws and policies, as well as our country’s historical evolution would have to become the necessary foundation for young people who, therefore, in the month of July will turn in their ballots to elect Mexico’s next chief of state, as well as senators, federal and local congressmen, governors, municipal mayors, and delegates, that is, authorities of the executive and legislative powers. Many of these young people will manifest their will, through their ballot in the urns, for the first time in the exercise of this important democratic right; but will they have full awareness of what their vote means? Do they know the proposals of the different candidates? Do they know Mexico’s history, especially the most recent one? These questions make me think about the necessary and profound educational revolution we have to start as a society, which, of course, includes the schools, the teachers, the study standards and curricula, but which includes also all the citizenry as parents and as people who day by day live a community life in all the possible spaces in our performance as citizens. Our life example is our best legacy, without a doubt. Thus, just like in the theater we were participants in a dilemma in which we respected the majority’s decision, the same way are we in every aspect of our daily life, and what the young people will project will be, mostly, what we are giving them as an example; a hard commitment. And to close, I will finish by emphasizing, about my commentary on the play El que dijo que sí / El que dijo que no, that I am glad that this kind of works are played; that this is a play for the whole family; that it would be great to have teachers who would take their students to see it and participate in the analysis of this dilemma; that it is worth seeing the work of the 16 artists on stage, with Daniel Hidalgo’s and Alexander Daniels’ original music and arrangements, with the design and sets designed by Aura Gomez Arreola, videoart by Daniel Ruiz Primo, choreography and butoh dance by Eugenia Vargas, lighting by Sergio Lopez Vigueras, and the performance of the following actors, musicians and dancers: Beatriz Luna, Sergio Ramos, Ricardo Rodríguez, Alejandro Morales, Víctor Maraña, Rubén Olivarez, Felipe Madrigal, David Psalmon, Ernesto Juárez, Alexander Daniels, Tomás Fernández, Daniel Hidalgo, Malú Macareno, Aura Gómez Arreola, Grecia Valenzuela y Alberto Villanueva. © 2012 María Yolanda Xelhuantzi, All Rights Reserved © 2012 LatinoticiasMC, All Rights Reserved |
◘ More on Loans and Debt for Students in Private Schools
In my last collaboration, I sketched some inconvenient details around the financing program to young people who will do their major and graduate studies at private institutions of higher education. This piece of news has caused commotion in the academic environment and among the sectors interested in higher education; several discussion and analysis panels have been organized around this proposal, where, I reiterate, the beneficiaries will be the banks and the private schools students are registered in, or where those who have finished high school may intend to study. The mechanisms which will regulate this financial scheme are not clear yet; however, judging by the experiences created in other countries, it is foreseeable that the indebtedness for these young people will start from the moment they start their higher level studies, a quite unfavorable situation and completely risky for the students’ financial health, as well as harmful to the national educational system, where it becomes very clear that it is favoring, with this perspective, the private education model. It is interesting that just a few days of having announced this financing program the decree for the creation of the Distance University has been published, a proposal which stems directly from the Department of Public Education (Secretaría de Educación Pública) and which is directed to the people who cannot have access to the in-campus mode of the public education institutions, whether it is because their work or family dynamics does not allow them to, or because it is impossible for them to finance their studies. The birth of this modality in the public higher education is laudable, which will for sure benefit thousands of people who, under this scheme, will be able to carry out their higher education studies, or finish the studies they could have left unfinished; however, it also makes a break evident, between those who have the possibilities of having a professional education in the in-campus mode, which does offer important comparable advantages, as is the fact of living directly the educational experiences involving the face to face interaction with professors and classmates, which educates further ahead of the formal curricula (what we call hidden curriculum), which enriches the life of those young people who attend the university or institution of higher education with the extracurricular activities offered by these institutions; and those who do not have another option but to interact through electronic means. It is, however, undeniable that it is an achievement to have computer technology at the service of education, and to have academic programs developed to facilitate studies for people through these means, but undoubtedly, the gap exists between those who can finance their education and those who will not be able to do it, but who will be able to take advantage of the technology. What is important is that the range of possibilities be wide, and that the material conditions be generated for young people, for them especially, to have varied opportunities to attain a professional education and to use that profession, which will give them enough for a dignified living and to participate with their knowledge, talents, skills, aptitudes, and capacities in society as a whole. For sure, there will soon be published many articles making analysis of these two topics and the discussion will widen, I hope, so that those who aspire to carry out their higher level studies know the options open to them, put them on the scale, and see the pros and cons very clearly in each of the options. What is important is for us to develop the actions which will allow the students to have access and develop their professional studies till the end, and that the country will know how to put to use their full potential, which is enormous. We will be pointing out the main ideas derived from the analysis that education reasearchers will produce with this respect to make this a richer discussion. © 2012 María Yolanda Xelhuantzi, All Rights Reserved © 2012 LatinoticiasMC, All Rights Reserved |
The Educational Debacle Continues in 2012
January 20th, 2010. MEXICO CITY. The year that has started surprised us with the announcement by the executive power about the creation of a financing program for young people who do their college and graduate studies in prívate institutions of higher education. This piece of news results, at least strange and totally in violation of the Third Article of the Constitution of Mexico, given the fact that the Mexican State would have to give scholarships to the students in order to educate them in public institutions of higher education, with support that would help them pay for their living expenses and educational materials, but not to generate credits through banking institutions which would force them to pay a great amount of money to the private institution where the students are registered which will ultimately result the immediate beneficiary. The educational credit formula, a mechanism recommended by instances like the International Monetary Fund for low industrialized countries, has shown in the nations which have implemented it, as Chile, its enormous limitations, if not failures, since the young people will be condemned to pay an accumulated credit loan through the years their studies take place, without having the guarantee of having the necessary resources to do it, since the employment is limited, and if they do not succeed in inserting themselves in the labor market with a decent salary, it will be impossible for them to pay for this credit. In the case of Mexico, it is, besides, a scheme contrary to the vocation of the State emanated from the social struggles which have taken so many lives, since here the right to education, at all levels, is guaranteed by the constitution, a situation that, in fact, has not been accomplished. Maybe, in order to get this last argument destroyed, last January 16th the creation of the Open and Distance University of Mexico was announced which will admit students who would like to do their major studies; the decree will be published on January 20th; the operation mechanisms must be carefully studied, since in its foundation it is established that it is created in order to open equitable opportunities for access to this educational level. On the other hand, with respect to the teacher training studies, i.e., the one designed to prepare basic education teachers, there is a serious crisis and a notorious lack of political will to make it work adequately, both from the federal and state level government instances and from the top of the union chair of SNTE (National Teachers Union by its Spanish initials). It comes to mind that phrase said precisely by Elba Esther Gordillo herself, for-life president of this powerful teachers union, where it was stated that the teacher-training schools should become tourism schools, with which she was back stabbing these schools; and that is what is happening to them due to the lack of appropriate budget for their sustenance, especially and in a deeper way, to the rural teacher education schools. This is the origin of the conflict created at the Teacher Education Rural School in Ayotzinapa, Guerrero, where in November of last year, there was a march organized by the students (this school is only for males) who were asking for the attention of the state authorities to deliver the commitments that were made during the electoral campaign by the present governor to provide this school with the resources which will allow it to run. The march ended with the murder of two of the students of the school and of a person who worked at a gas station, located in the area where different kinds of police started a shooting against the marching students, thus ending up in three homicides. Since November, the intervention of the National Commission for Human Rights has clearly established that the weapons shot were the ones belonging to the police forces; that the students from the Teacher Education School in Ayotzinapa were unarmed, and that the state authorities have not been able to respond to the students’ petitions and much less have they cleared out the violent events where the armed forces were involved. However, today the federal government publishes that the academic achievement of rural teacher education schools is very low, as if they were justifying the disappearance of these schools. Could they be obeying the mandate by Mrs. Gordillo Morales of extinguishing teacher education schools? There is no question that in this presidential term, besides being characterized by and going into history as the one which has set the conditions for terrible crimes, which have taken the life of more than 50 thousand people in these fateful six years, having been incapable of creating the jobs it promised, having created millions of youngsters doomed to be cannon fodder to the criminal organizations, having incremented the number of the poor and of people who die of starvation and infections derived from the same lack of food, will be identified as the devastator of public education. We will talk, in future collaborations, about the constructive part which we will have to display to rehabilitate the national educational system, sustained by laic, free and compulsory education which our “Carta Magna” establishes © 2012 María Yolanda Xelhuantzi, All Rights Reserved © 2012 LatinoticiasMC, All Rights Reserved |
Challenges in Education for the Year 2012
María Yolanda Xelhuantzi López I hope that this year, 2012, is a year full of achievements, satisfactions and happiness for all the readers and those of us who participate in LatinoticiasMC. Just about to celebrate the Epiphany, and with it the tradicional cutting or the Rosca de Reyes, or Kings Bread, a delicious sweet bread ornamented with fruit, with a hidden baby toy representing baby Jesus and which we gladly eat on January 6th, to evoke the adoration the Three Wise Men did of just born Jesus, I am about to include to my list of petitions to the Three Wise Men that, at last, this year, we may carry out the important transformations in Mexico’s political culture, which implies improvements in crucial topics, like employment and education, the economy, and above all, in education. Toward the end of the awful year that just ended, something uncommon happened: the Secretary of Education asked for the resignation of the undersecretary of Basic Education, the so called “uncomfortable son-in-law, Elba Esther Gordillo Morales’, since this character was promoting his postulation by popular election, by using the travel expenses he received as undersecretary to develop activities related to the position, which is an evidently irregular situation; due to which he had no other choice but to resign. This fact comes to be the last stab wound of what we had been analyzing as a frontal rupture in relation to the Executive power and the factic power of Mrs. Gordillo, empress of the most retrograde fake faction of unionism of teachers in the country. Although this signal clears out the breaking of the alliances of power between the top of the SNTE (National Union of Education Workers, by its Spanish initials) and the more and more diminished figure of Felipe Calderon, as the leader that he should be, it also shows that the educational sector represents a central element in the political life of the country, which makes evident the total failure of the educational policy, which for the basic sector meant Fernando González Sánchez’s position (the “uncomfortable son-in-law). Nevertheless, it is important to make an analysis of the proposals which the candidates and pre-candidates to the presidency have for the educational sector, formally, at the booth on July 2012, but their support groups, and most especially, the position that basic education teachers will adopt toward this important electoral process, since they are the greatest part of the total of teachers at the national level. These proposals must be studied also with respect to a whole or the group formed by other aspects as is the labor one, the fiscal one, energy politics, public safety, sustainability, agriculture, culture, Mexico’s relation to other countries, etc., and place in perspective the whole scheme of the concept of development of the country’s present and future, so that it is possible to establish its viability as a project of nation and so that us, citizens, can decide which project is the one that has the best probabilities of success and at the same time means a betterment in the quality of living for most in the population. It is important to clear out the way of those who have made the public service one more stepping stone to their personal agendas and wealth building and power, but it is even more important to see who will take over the tasks which will allow for deep transformation projects to be carried out for the benefit of Mexicans, and not allow those characters who have a proven ill nature and professional incompetence to reach positions of popular election to jobs of great social significance. Dear Three Wise Men: My petition to you is that you may bring us knowledge and wisdom so that we can choose correctly those who will have the great responsibility to direct our country’s life in the following years, and that we may have great participation as citizens, that we may be on top of what our governing class is saying and doing, and we may demand clear check and balances from them, and that we may fulfill what we are supposed to do too. |
